87022 speeds towards Cleghorn Level Crossing, Lanarkshire on 20th December 2007 After 34 years on the WCML, the whining sound of the GEC412 motors from a class 87 will no longer be heard. Like many classes before them, their operations consigned to the history books. For me, this is an end of an era, and I know many others for which the same holds true. Thank you all for the memories. 87028 has been back in action on the mail trains recently. On Thursday 13th September, Lord President hauled 1S96 from Willesden to Shieldmuir throughout. Friday's 1M44 Was handled by the 87, along with 1A97 to the capital (of England). Another outing was had on Tuesday 18th, hauling 1S96 once more throughout to Shieldmuir. #28 disgraced the class though by failing on Wednesday 19th at Shieldmuir with flat batteries before departure of 1M44 (Who left the lights on?). This resulted in 57310 being hired in to operate the train to Warrington and on to Willesden. Not to be completely outdone, #28 was out again on Thursday 20th working 1S96 to Sheildmuir. This time, without flat batteries on the Friday, and thus enabling it to work 1M44 on Friday 21st. How will they [GBRf] manage when the 87s are no longer on lease? 87028 was needed on over the weekend to move a broken class 325 from Stafford. Runnning 0Z00 from Willesden PRDC to Stafford on Saturday morning. On Sundat, it moved the errant class 325 from Stafford to Crewe Works, running as 5Z97 18:00 Stafford to Crewe Works. 87028 returned south from Crewe, first to the station, and then to Wembley as 0Z14 21:25 from Crewe. |

The class has probebly encountered the least number of movements per class over the last month since being introduced in the early 1970s.

87022 was used on Saturday 23rd June for a Charter from London Kings Cross to Berwick-Upon-Tweed. On arrival at Berwick, the train ran empty to Edinburgh Craigentinny to reverse.

87022 and 87028 swapped locations last Thursday, 14th June, using the mail services to do so. No other movements, not even the planned move of 87007, 87008 and 87026, until today when 87028 ran 0Z87 15:30 from Warrington RMT to Willesden PRDC. This is, I understand, in preparation for a forthcoming railtour. |

87022 worked 1M44 from Sheildmuir to Warrington on Wednesday afternoon. 87022 returned to Scotland working 0Z87 from Warrington to Shieldmuir at 11:00 this morning. My guess is that it will work 1M44 from Sheildmuir, although I understand as of 15:15 it wasn't allocated this. |
